How to make a triangle cursor

This tutorial is teach you how to make your own triangle cursor for your tumblr.

WHAT YOU REQUIRE:

  • Photoshop or Gimp

GIMP has many of the same tools as Photoshop and is free with no trials or charge.

To download GIMP click here!

If you want Photoshop then I’m afraid I can’t supply you with the link I used since the blog deactivated but I suggest you just GOOGLE it.

Technically you can even use Paint for some aspects of the tutorial, but I recommend using Photoshop/GIMP as it’ll be easier to follow, but you may do as you please ^.^!

For this tutorial I am using ‘Adobe Photoshop CS5 Extended Edition’, but I reckon that the features are roughly the same in most versions.

STEP ONE:

Open your chosen software and create a new document/canvas that is 32 px by 32 px (Px = Pixels).

STEP TWO:

Zoom in! (I zoomed in to about 1600% but this can vary.)

STEP THREE:

Unlock the background layer, UNLESS you started with a layer 1 automatically then you won’t have to.

Just double click the blank space next the the word ‘Background’ then a popup…should…popup, just click okay and your previous locked background layer should now be an unlocked ‘Layer 0/1’.

STEP FOUR:

Pick a colour of your choice, I’m going to be choosing blue since it’s my favourite colour!

STEP FIVE:

Switch from whatever tool you were using previously to the pencil tool.

Make sure that the pencil is set to a size of 1px (pixel).

The reason that you need a pencil is because it is easier to make sure that your line to 25 pixels long as you can then just make the line one square at a time. So instead of thinking it as 25 pixels you can just think about it as 25 squares ^^.

STEP SIX:

So with that said, make 25 ‘squares’ going down.

STEP SEVEN:

Now make a line that is 8 ‘squares’ diagonally going to the right.

STEP EIGHT:

Then go 10 ‘squares’ to the right.

STEP NINE:

After that go up 18 ‘squares’ diagonally to the left.

STEP TEN:

Use the fill tool to fill it in.

Make sure to use a colour which is lighter than the colour that you used on the outline.

STEP ELEVEN:

Double click the blank space on the layer which has your cursor on it. This is to bring up the “blending options” box.

STEP TWELVE:

Now, you need to play around with the settings to your preference.

Make sure to tick the options ‘BEVEL AND EMBOSS’, ‘CONTOUR’ and ‘INNER SHADOW’.

&

Then edit the settings to your preference there.

Here were my settings:

For Bevel and Emboss:

Contour:

Inner Shadow:

STEP THIRTEEN:

Now when you zoom out to 100%, it should look something roughly like this:

Yours won’t be exactly like mine because you may have use different settings and you’ve probably used different colours, this is absolutely fine, as long as it does look roughly like a cursor.

If you want, you can add more highlights and outline it with pencil, be creative! ^^.

This is my final result (I just outlined it with a darker blue).

STEP FOURTEEN:

Save your cursor as a ‘PNG file’.

…and that’s it! You’re done ^^!

Ask me if you need help with anything extra!..but if you go anon then be SPECIFIC! ◕‿◕
